Book Review: It Feels Good to Feel Good

Buy “Feels Good” here and it’s FREE Sept. 19-21

It Feels Good to Feel Good by Cheryl Meyer is packed with information about toxins in our food and cosmetics. Beyond that, it gives us information on avoiding these toxins and chemicals and where to find affordable alternatives. Also, every chapter includes lists of things you can do to improve in different areas. For example, you can eat only organically grown meat and eggs and vegetables or you can eat more seeds and fewer animal products in general. There is mention of the current bee crisis which involves collapsing hives due to an unknown factor. Nobody likes bees, but do you like honey, do you like that plants are pollinated so that we can get food, do you like that trees are pollinated so that we can get oxygen? It would be a very far-reaching problem if the bees were to disappear.

Meyer goes into great detail on the fine points of various food choices that we make every day. For instance, do you eat full-fat or low-fat dairy? Farm-raised or wild caught fish? Shrimp from Asia or Mexico? Knowing the answers will make a huge difference in your health. When you eat according to the rules stated by this author, it is said that you will detox, lose weight, clear your skin, get regular, and many other benefits.

Cosmetics are a very high source of toxicity in your body. Think about it. You either apply products to your skin, spray them on, or put them on your lips which you will end up ingesting. When applying products around your eyes, they can get immediately into your bloodstream from the capillaries that are close to the surface. From there it is just a short distance to the brain. Cleaning supplies are another hotbed of chemicals. Check out the resources listed to find out what is in your products and follow the rest of the suggestions in this book. It’s very comprehensive and will help your health dramatically.

Book Review: Speed Up Your Metabolism: Strategies That Will Help You Lose More Weight!

Buy here: http://amzn.to/2pUBGnR  Free right now until May 11.

If you’re looking to try a new diet book this spring, this may be the one. I knew some of the tips in Speed Up Your Metabolism, but had forgotten or stopped using them. But some of Smith’s tips were new to me. Reading the book inspired me to drop a few pounds this spring. I especially liked the list of foods that will speed metabolism. I like green tea and it would be oh, so easy to drink three cups a day.

Starting a new job last week I had to give up my “life of leisure” and start getting up early every day again. I could use some more energy and this book will definitely help me to get it. If I lose a few pounds in the process, so much better.

Enjoy! And let me know if this book helps you.

Book review: Plant Based Intermittent Fasting

I enjoyed reading the book Plant-Based Intermittent Fasting by Andrea J. Clark. I have long wanted to be vegetarian, but couldn’t seem to have enough energy while not eating meat, fish and poultry. I have also been interested in intermittent fasting as it seems to have a lot of good science behind it and could be a way to eat fewer calories without suffering. I’ve tried it in the past, eating only from noon to 8 p.m., and that seems to be a good time frame for me. Somehow I got away from that and began eating breakfast again and snacking at night. That extended my eating period to roughly sixteen hours. Clark’s book combines these two desires, for me to lose weight and be vegetarian.

Intermittent fasting works because you eat for instance for 8 hours a day (not nonstop) and fast for 16 hours. This allows your digestive system to fully digest what you have eaten in the eight hours, assimilate it and not store the excess as fat.

My previous job had a lot to do with my weight gain because I was not allowed to eat at my desk except quick finger foods that are not messy and would not deter me from answering the phone. In addition I had to be careful not to get any stains on the papers I was working on. So I had a granola bar every day for breakfast and usually went out for lunch because I couldn’t eat at my desk. Now I am not working outside the home so I can eat when and what I like. That was tough to control at first as I also had time to bake cookies and bread. I plan to stick with this diet for a few weeks and see what happens. I had success with intermittent fasting before so I think it will work. I enjoy beans and vegetables which are prevalent in this diet.

Several different versions of intermittent fasting are covered in this book. One may be right for you.

Book Review: Health, Wellness and Longevity

Buy Health, Wellness and Longevity Now

Health, Wellness & Longevity by Steve Dimon reflects a wealth of research. So much more than an Eat This While Avoiding That premise, Health Wellness & Longevity goes through every possible topic including where food comes from, GMOs, macronutrients, water, sugar, grains, types of dietary fat, detoxing, how to eat for health, micronutrients, techniques for healing, and so much more. The appendices include doctor testimonials to prove the efficacy of Dimon’s methods. His expertise comes from the self-learning he undertook after suffering a stroke. Using these techniques he was able to heal himself and he wishes to spread the word and coach others to do the same.

You will be surprised to learn of the healthiness of chicken skin and dark meat. The brain contains a high percentage of fat, as do certain other areas of the body, so to be healthy it is not recommended to adopt a low fat diet. Something else you may not realize is that pharmaceutical companies, lobbyists, and government subsidized farming have a powerful on your health. Profit is the reason your doctor receives free drug samples to hand out to patients—thereby getting them dependent. It’s also the reason the government has paid farmers to grow, or even not to grow, certain crops. Be wise and learn the cultural factors that affect our diets.

Are eggs good or bad? What really causes cancer? Are GMOs and irradiated foods really safe? Steve Dimon will help you to evaluate all this and more in Health, Wellness and Longevity in a user friendly understandable way. I am always looking for ways to improve my health so I enjoyed listening to this audio book. It will provide you with many facts and methods to improve your own health.

What’s New About the New Year?

Are you still making New Year’s resolutions? I used to drive to a quiet lake on a dirt road on New Year’s Day, and think about things that I needed to change in my life.

gilligan-lake

Now the road is paved and I found out that it has a different name (Gilligan Lake) on Google Maps from what we always called it (Holt’s Lake). But I digress. It was a lovely spot to sit and think and that is what I need at times like this. Maybe I will take a trip there on my next day off. I haven’t been there in awhile.

My life has gotten so busy and hectic that I’m lucky if I can sit and sip tea and look out the window for 5 minutes a day. That will be happening a lot more in the near future as one of my resolutions this year is to do things that feed my soul, find my bliss, fulfill me. No matter what cliche I use, it sounds trite. Anyway, it all boils down to self-image or self-esteem. I deserve to be happy and I now allow myself to pursue my dreams and create my future.

If there are bad habits in your life, or you need to go after something you’ve always dreamed of, this is the time to do it. Find ways to make yourself a better person. Do something nice for someone else. Develop a new good habit. Whatever change looks like to you, now is the time. Write that novel or learn how. Learn a language. Make a new friend. I promise you won’t regret it.

Leave your thoughts in the comments below, and, Happy New Year!

Book Review: Chemicalism

chemicalism

I am a Chemaholic! Are you? Find out here.

There are so many chemicals in our food and drinks that many of us are sick and tired. Tap water can contain plastics, weed killers, pharmaceuticals, heavy metals and other toxins. Even bottled water, if it does not say “spring water” or “purified water,” is simply tap water bottled for convenience. This alone can have terrible effects on your body. Your organs are designed to purify what is in your body, and excrete the toxins, but they can become overloaded and diseased. Why not put in only the best?

Simon Kadwill-Kelly has done an amazing thing. He has put together a healthy eating and lifestyle plan, simply enough that anyone can follow it, but still with enough detail and new information that I, a certified Nutrition Consultant, learned several things. For instance, I knew that food can be addictive. But I had no idea that filling up with nutritious food and pure water, and never taking a bite of chocolate, or cookie, or a drink of tap water, would give you so much energy. And I didn’t know that it can take weeks for your body to get used to the healthy changes, during which time you may feel like you have a cold, or tired, or even experience skin eruptions and bowel movement changes. Never fear; according to Simon you will one day have energy to burn! He himself had severe sciatica (back pain) for ten years, and when he had recovered through this plan he went for an ambitious bicycle ride and still had energy when he got to his destination, so he went even further.

Chemicalism by Simon Kadwill-Kelly is a book for anyone who would like more energy or to heal themselves, and has tried diets, exercise, and pills. He lost 3-1/2 stone (about 50 pounds) using healthy, natural foods and pure water.  This is not a guarantee of results, but it makes so much sense. I am excited to try it and buy a better water purifier too because Kadwill-Kelly says you must even use purified water for making tea and boiling food. I have tried many things in the past myself, and am healthier than I used to be, but I would like to feel better. This is an easy recipe for me because I know how to cook, so I hope to have great results.

Book Review: The Alchemy of Well-Being

alchemy

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M157BN3

The Alchemy of Well-Being is one of the most interesting health books I have read in a long time. Dr. Matthew Potts has created a system whereby one can discover the root of their health and life problems, utilizing a lengthy questionnaire. This questionnaire, called the Code Breaker, delves into areas such as eating habits, thought patterns, relationships and symptoms to come up with a prioritized action plan that can help you revolutionize your life. The Code Breaker will tell you where to start and which chapters to read first for best results, which will help to prevent burnout with implementation of your action plan.

Alchemy was designed for a person like me. If you like to check off boxes and be part of creating your own step by step plan for self-improvement, then it was written for you too. Dr. Potts is even available for one on one consultations either by Skype or in person if deeper work is indicated and desired. As a certified Holistic Health Practitioner and Master Herbalist myself, I can tell you that the nutrition recommendations are right on. I found some areas where I have slipped in my own diligence and so it is a valuable reminder even if you know what you should be doing, to actually do it. The section which I believe will be most instrumental in my own situation is that of overcoming emotional blocks. Through a short series of questions I was able to reveal negative thought patterns and hope to eradicate them through a special technique you will learn from this book. Thanks to Dr. Potts for this groundbreaking, or should I say code breaking, new book.

Book Review: Thyroid Diet

Thyroid Diet

Thyroid Diet : Thyroid Solution Diet & Natural Treatment Book For Thyroid Problems & Hypothyroidism Revealed!

Thyroid Diet–as it is called on its cover despite the discrepancy on its title page–by Jason Scotts is a fact-packed book about the inner workings of the endocrine gland system. I have had a thyroid condition for many years, but I learned some new things about how the hormones produced by the thyroid gland and other glands interact with each other. Also, all these hormones are affected by things like stress, diet, and genetics. The thyroid controls the metabolism of foods to produce energy. If it does not function as intended, weight gain and fatigue can occur and these are the first symptoms often noticed, as well as cold hands and feet and thinning of hair and nails.

Moreover, if a thyroid condition is undetected or untreated, it can lead to diseases like Type II Diabetes, heart disease, goiter, or even thyroid cancer, as well as obesity. The thyroid can become overactive (hyper) or underactive (hypo) and both are dangerous. Thyroid cancer is often referred to as “the easy cancer to cure,” but in reality it can be fatal just like any cancer, so it is nothing to trifle with.

Jason Scotts initially began researching to help the members of his family with thyroid issues. He is a strong proponent of another book, The Thyroid Solution Diet, by another author, and hints at tips, strategies, and recipes from that book. Many natural methods can be used to help the thyroid, but if the metabolism cannot be regulated with foods and supplements a person must get medical attention for their thyroid gland. This is a good informational book but I would like to see it go into more detail and provide more information.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for this review.
